Our Board of Supervisors is made up of Harvard Kennedy School alumni who live in the San Diego metro. The board is divided into four committees, Programming, Finance and Legal, Communications, and Partnerships, and the board leadership coordinates activity with other local organizations, as well as the Alumni Relations Office in Cambridge.
Chair and Chief Executive Officer
Haney Hong, MPP 2012 - Chief Executive Officer and Chair
Haney Hong is Managing Partner at HDH & Associates, LLC, a management consultancy focused on responsible strategic planning and change management. Additionally, he is a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserve, currently assigned as Commanding Officer, Expeditionary Maintenance Detachment Lima in Point Loma. He is an adjunct lecturer in Management at the University of San Diego School of Business Administration and an adjunct professor at the US Naval War College. He also serves on the National Navy Reserve Policy Board, the Board of Directors for the Alfred Friendly Foundation, and the University of San Diego Changemaker Challenge Advisory Council. Haney Hong has a degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and a Master in Public Policy degree from the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Tara Jeyaratnam, MPA 2010 - Chief Operating Officer and Chair of the Programming Committee
Tara Jeyaratnam is Founder and Principal of GreenDreamsE, a consulting practice which works with businesses with supply chains in emerging markets on sustainability/ compliance training and capacity building. Tara is an expert in Corporate Social Responsibility and Supply Chain Sustainability with experience in the manufacturing, retail and tech industries. She has held leadership positions in companies in the Midwest and has led CSR and vendor development programs as Global Compliance Manager for Sears Holdings Corporations.
Tara is currently working to establish a resource center and micro-business incubator for women, GreenDreamsWomen, in her family home in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. In 2010, Tara obtained a Master in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where she was a Mason Fellow with a primary focus on post-conflict peace building and reconciliation through development.
Kevin Casey, MC/MPA 2008 - Chief Financial Officer and Chair of the Finance and Legal Committee
Kevin is the managing director and owner of Valkill Investments, LLC, a California real estate investment and management company. He has worked extensively in government and non-profit sectors, and continues to volunteer for and support veterans organizations. Kevin and his wife Diana have three children and reside in the Mission Hills community of San Diego.
David Gorman, MPA 2000 - Supervisor
Dave Gorman is a certified Program Management Professional (PMP) and is a systems engineer for Navy command and control systems. In 2009 he completed a career as a Captain in the Navy with experience in politico-military affairs, maritime patrol and reconnaissance aviation (with 3000 hours in P-3 aircraft), anti-submarine warfare, and unmanned systems. He was the Commanding Officer of the Navy’s only unmanned air vehicle (UAV) squadron, which also operated unmanned boats, jet-skis, and aerial targets (“skeet for the fleet”). In 1999 he was selected by the U.S. Navy to attend the Kennedy School of Government where he received an MPA.
Darryl Griffen, MPA 2002 - Supervisor
Darryl retired in 2007 as the Chief Patrol Agent of the San Diego Sector Border Patrol after serving approximately 25+ years with the Border Patrol, of which 20 of those years were in a supervisory capacity. During his career he served in various positions and locations throughout the organization at the local, regional, and national level involving operations, intelligence, communications, training, and international liaison. In 2001-2002, he was selected by the U.S. Attorney General to represent the Department of Justice (DOJ) and attend the Kennedy School of Government where he received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a specialty in Strategic Management and Mobilization of Resources. Since his retirement in 2007, he has served as a Course Developer and Course Instructor in support of three U.S. Customs and Border Protection Leadership Education Programs as well as an Operations Specialist Consultant in the private sector with the Boeing Company regarding border security.

Charles Seigel, MC/MPA 2012 - Supervisor
Charles Seigel is currently a consultant in lobbying and media relations. He has nearly 25 years’ experience in lobbying for controversial publicly traded and privately held companies at the Federal, state and local levels all around the United States and Canada. He has been a senior vice president and vice president for government affairs for four companies in two controversial industries, and has spent his entire life in and around politics and government.
Before that, he worked on Capitol Hill in Washington as press secretary for Rep. Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland and the House Democratic Caucus, and was also the press spokesman for Washington, D.C.’s largest and most controversial city government agency, and a newspaper reporter. He grew up in Washington, D.C. He received his Master’s in Public Administration degree from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government in 2012 and his bachelor’s degree in American history from the University of Chicago. In Spring 2015, he taught the “American Government and Politics” class at the University of La Verne in La Verne, California.
